Anchal Kataria’s journey toward founding Spread A Smile BC Foundation began in 2019, inspired by the work she observed at a non-profit dental clinic in White Rock, where her father, Dr. Amaan Kataria, was providing care to underserved patients. Many of these patients traveled from distant communities like Abbotsford, Mission, and Chilliwack, seeking help they could not afford elsewhere—even at already discounted rates. Witnessing their hardship and pain moved Anchal deeply and sparked a powerful desire to create meaningful change.
Motivated by the urgent need for accessible dental care, Anchal took the initiative to launch what would become Spread A Smile BC Foundation in 2021, with the support of her father. She led efforts in fundraising, community outreach, and donor engagement to help ensure that no one would be denied dental treatment due to financial limitations. Her vision was clear: to eliminate barriers to oral healthcare and bring smiles to those who needed them most.
From the beginning, Anchal and Dr. Amaan shared a dream to establish a community dental clinic closer to the Fraser Valley, where the need was great and access was limited. They knew that reducing the burden of travel and cost could make all the difference for underserved individuals. Thanks to Anchal’s dedication, persistent advocacy, and the support of generous donors, that dream became a reality.
Today, Spread A Smile BC Foundation proudly sponsors a dental clinic in Abbotsford, offering compassionate, community-centered oral care to those who would otherwise go without. Anchal’s story is one of vision, empathy, and leadership. Through her efforts, the Foundation has not only provided dental treatment, but also restored hope, dignity, and confidence to hundreds of lives. Her unwavering commitment continues to drive the mission forward—ensuring that every person has the opportunity to smile with pride.

It all began with a story passed down through quiet conversations and the unwavering strength of his grandfather, who had migrated from Pakistan to India during the 1947 Partition. Life in those years was not easy. Having left everything behind, his grandfather struggled to rebuild a life in a new land. The hardships were many, and money was scarce. Amid all the challenges, one thing that brought him daily discomfort and quiet pain was the loss of his teeth—and with it, the inability to afford dentures.
Young Amaan would sit by his grandfather, watching him smile gently despite the hardship. His grandfather would often tell him with a blend of hope and affection, “When you grow up, become a dentist and make me a denture. That would be your gift to me.”
Those words settled deep in Amaan’s heart. They weren’t just a wish; they were a calling. Driven by that simple but profound request, Amaan pursued dentistry not out of ambition, but out of a promise made to someone who had endured so much with grace. But life has its own pace. By the time Amaan graduated and became a dentist, his beloved grandfather had passed away. The chance to fulfill his promise to craft that denture was gone. The loss left a quiet ache in his heart. Yet, in that moment of grief, a new resolve was born: If he couldn’t help his grandfather, he would help others like him.
That promise became the seed of Mission Denture: Senior Smile Drive a heartfelt initiative under the Spread A Smile Foundation to provide 1,000 free dentures to underprivileged seniors who have long suffered in silence. It is a tribute, not only to one grandfather’s dream, but to the dignity of every elderly person who has been denied the ability to eat, speak, or smile freely simply because they cannot afford the care they deserve. Today, Dr. Amaan Kataria’s work through Spread A Smile Foundation is more than community service it is the fulfillment of a legacy. With every denture he helps provide, with every smile he helps restore, he honors the memory of his grandfather and the millions like him who have lived with quiet sacrifice.
